Once an artist decided to teach painting to his son. Growing
up, the artist's son also became an artist. Both of them would go to the market
to sell their paintings together.
The paintings of the father were sold for five hundred
rupees, but the paintings of the son did not fetch more than a hundred.
After coming from the market, the artist used to ask his son
to make paintings, explained to him the errors and asked him to rectify the
mistakes.
This sequence continued for many years.
The boy was very intelligent, he listened to all the instructions
of his father very carefully and kept trying to improve his art. After some
time the paintings of that boy also started selling for five hundred rupees.
The artist would still explain his son in the same way and
tell his son about the mistakes in making the paintings. The son paid more
attention to his art and his art started to improve even more. Now the artist's
son's sculptures started selling for eight hundred rupees.
But the artist still did not stop teaching his son.
One day, the son got very annoyed and said, 'Why don't you don't stop teaching me.' Now my art has
become even better than you. Now I get up to eight hundred rupees for my
paintings, but the cost of your paintings is still five hundred rupees.
The artist explained to his son, 'Son, when I was of your
age.' Then I had become an egoist of my art and I gave up improving my art.
Since then my progress has stopped and I could not make paintings of more than
five hundred rupees.
Moral of the story
You should always be ready to understand and rectify your
mistakes so that you can reach the ranks of the best artists who makes valuable
paintings.
